The House that Jack Built
By Brad Warren, Copyright 2004
My name is Jack Miller, I¹m an old union man
And you¹re standing right now in the house that Jack built
My pride is the work that I¹ve done with my hands
It¹s the laboring man who has made this land great
I am old man of 92, when you are my age you¹ll realize it¹s
true
You¹re young and you¹re limber, your bones are like timber
But come the old winter you'll change in your ways
I¹ve seen you grow up in what seems a few days
And you know more than I knew when I was your age
I went to the sawmill when I was just 12
And i learned how to work all the saws and the lathes
When the Wobblies came round I was first to sign on
And we told the old boss that we wanted a raise
Well he called out his thugs and they rouded us up
And we ran through their gauntlet and many were killed
I worked all my life in the field and the sawmill
Built bridges and houses and roads and canals
We stood our ground strong and we organized strikes
In 50 years working built the working man¹s rights
Let me tell you one thing, how I earned a good wage
There ain¹t no arms like folded arms for the working man¹s
pay
There ain¹t no arms like folded arms for the working man¹s
pay.
My name is Jack Miller, I¹m an old union man
And you¹re standing right now in the house that Jack built.

Water Song
by Brad Warren, Copyright 2004
You are cool water in a spring
Fed by rain falling down
You receive all you need
Grow your heaven on the ground
In the springtimg cherries blossom
Bloom with all their might
A few days, a short life
Still they lift their tender petals high
When the wind turns them brown
You don¹t mind, they¹re coming down
You just kiss their rusty skins
Open up, welcome them in
When the summer blazes down
Hot sun warms the ground
Roots drink, branches sink
Another season turning round
You are cool water in a spring
Fed by rain falling down
You receive all you need
Grow your heaven on the ground
Grow your heaven on the ground
Grow your heaven on the ground
